I have always been associated with institutions that seek social justice and today I call America Solidaria my home. Ever since its founding I have had ties with the organization. Currently I am dedicated to the collective job of making this grand dream of integration and social equality in the Americas a reality. - Why am I with America Solidaria? Places call to us, captivate us and seduce us, together with the people who work there and the causes for which they mobilize. It is in these places where we become fulfilled, where we give our best and spend our lives in search of the truth. America Solidaria is one such place. The joy in service that comes from the unselfish act of giving freely to those who have been excluded has completely taken over me, both internally and externally. This organization makes it possible to create a new culture, to equip communities for a new level of solidarity in the Americas and I am honored to be a part of it. I believe in those who have been marginalized. I believe in the wealth they possess amidst their material poverty. We must let these riches loose so that they themselves can bring about major transformations. That is why we are here!

Since I was young I have always enjoyed participating in volunteer activities, social works and various groups in different places. In the beginning, I was involved in a variety of topics from community kitchens in southern Chile to working as an English professor in Kolkata for 6 months. But little by little I began to focus my social interests in the area of education, to which I am completely dedicated today. If you add to this the fact that I was born to a family of nomads (we moved many times...houses, cities, countries and even languages), you can find the roots that eventually led me to America Solidaria. - It was during a trip through Latin America that I got the call to "collaborate" on the Haiti projects. After having traveled through Central America for 7 months we arrived in a country that defied all standards. "Haiti cherie," a country that has deeply enchanted travelers by challenging pre-conceived notions of how social institutions work and fascinated them with its sharp contrast between material poverty and the wealth of human and natural resources. In Haiti I fell in love with the cause and applied for the position I currently hold (Technical Advisor for Education). This has allowed me to continuously discover and learn about the small differences between each location where our education projects are being implemented. I am ready for any and all new challenges that come my way.

I always thought that solidarity was something that only happened on occasion. With so many campaigns and causes like the Chilean Telethon for children with disabilities and donating excess change at the supermarket I thought that I was doing more than enough. Yet, I realize that that is not the case. It is as if I had been blindfolded. We work hard so that our children will have better lives, others do too but it is not easy in spite of their hard efforts. Since life can at times be very difficult, I want to give a hand to those who face bigger obstacles. That is why I am a member of America Solidaria. With your contribution, no matter how small, you feel like you are making a difference in a world that suffers from so much injustice. I am proud to be part of such a wonderful experience. Of course, I did not stop there. We know that solidarity multiplies through small daily gestures. In the end, you never know if you will be the one to need a helping hand.

Falabella Financiero is proud to work with America Solidaria. Even though our partnership with the organization is new, we have long-standing ties with Benito Baranda and his work. Over time we have been wrapped in his spirit and social commitment as well as the joy and optimism that he brings wherever he goes. -With a friend like that –because we consider Benito a friend- it is impossible not to be caught up in his desire to help improve lives everywhere we operate. - So, compelled by Falabella Financiero's desire to improve people's quality of life not only through the products and services that we offer, but also by making a commitment to help the most vulnerable communities in the region, we have sealed our union. We are thankful for the many dedicated people who have collaborated to make this alliance a reality. In addition to our involvement in projects in vulnerable communities across the hemisphere –through corporate volunteers, for example- we are grateful for what this foundation has taught us and done for us by helping our company become more committed to its surroundings and the society in which it operates.

As President of Komatsu Cummins Chile, I feel very honored to be able to work so closely with the team at America Solidaria. They are kind and highly-respected people, fully committed to social justice throughout the hemisphere. In recent years we have seen how companies are being called to play a more active role in social transformations across the region. - The work that we have done with America Solidaria has allowed us to make a connection with other social realities, such as that lived daily by the 584 girls at the República de Chile school in Haiti, to extend our level of solidarity with this country and to actively help improve the quality of life for these girls. - This project has provided multiple learning opportunities. It has mobilized every level of our organization and encouraged employee participation and involvement. We believe that the corporate volunteer program which we created in conjunction with America Solidaria will be a transformative and enriching experience, not only for those colleagues who will travel to Haiti, but for the entire company. We are filled with pride and this encourages us to continue with our work!

Being able to rely upon America Solidaria volunteers has been a very positive and valuable experience. They have always been very professional in sharing their community experience and their ideas have infiltrated our work onsite. We would like to emphasize their willingness to work, their ability to adapt to new situations and their quick and effective integration with local coordinators, with whom they have built close friendships. -They have earned the affection and respect of people as they work with the community. This year's volunteer has surpassed expectations because of her kindness, charisma and ability to adapt, which has been wonderful and very lovely to see. I would love to have another volunteer with experience in community work, who likes to work in rural areas and who is able to adapt and work as well as previous volunteers.
