America Solidaria is thrilled to announce that we received a grant from the Adventures for the Mind Foundation, the charitable arm of Belizean Grove whose aim is to advance the status of women and girls educationally, financially, and socially around the world.
Their generous grant will help us to fund our program in Colombia, “Rewriting My Life.” In partnership with La Organización Pro Niñez Indefensa (OPNI) in Guasca, Colombia, we work with 70 girls ages 14-17 to develop self-esteem and entrepreneurial skills through agro-industry workshops. The girls come from vulnerable situations on the streets where sexual and substance abuse is prevalent.
Two volunteers from América Solidaria will be able to facilitate safe spaces and foster empowerment for these young women thanks to the support of Adventures for the Mind. The AFM Foundation’s mission of advancing the status of women and girls educationally, financially, and socially around the world intersects with America Solidaria’s mission and the project’s objectives in working with girls in high-need rural communities. With both psychological and educational programming, the program helps create personal and professional identities that propel the girls to seek stability, education, and jobs.
