The Young Americas Business Trust (YABT), a nonprofit organization that works in cooperation with the Organization of American States (OAS) to promote and implement programs that encourage entrepreneurship in the Americas to combat poverty and seek better opportunities for youth, conducted surveys and outreach programs to identify ways in which young people can participate in official channels of the OAS. One recommendation that was overwhelmingly supported was using the Youth Forum of the Americas as an official space for participation in the Summit of the Americas.
Nicolas, a Chilean lawyer, fellow from America Solidaria U.S. and Atlas Corps, formally proposed this on behalf of all youth participants stating:
“We propose the institutionalization of the Youth Forum of the Americas as an official space for participation in the process of the Summit of the Americas through a resolution or mandate and supporting and developing local, national and hemispheric forums for youth.”
America Solidaria U.S. hopes that such a recommendation can shortly become reality in developing greater dialogue between young people and their respective governments in the Western Hemisphere. Today, too many young people are not receiving the quality education they need to seek employment opportunities. We believe stronger integration and the participation of young professionals through official channels provided by OAS/YABT can help strengthen relationships, and thus build trust and cooperation between all nations of the continent.
