Under the slogan “Be the Change, Change his world, Change yours”, for the first time professionals in the United States interested in integrating our network of professional volunteers applied to sign up to America Solidaria to join our Foundation’s projects throughout the continent.
There were more than 60 days of announcements, with a presence in 11 social networking sites like Idealist, VolunteerMatch and Linkedin, broadcast in more than 32 universities and collaboration with important local organizations such as the Peace Corps and Americorps.
The profile of applicants is predominantly female, and came to us through social networks. 90% of these professionals have experience working in the social sector, NGOs and/or with the American public and the world, and the majority are post-graduate students.
We are happy with the results and confident that we will select an excellent candidate from this group who will be the first volunteer for America Solidaria U.S., and we thank all those who helped us spread out and call for this first group of professionals from the United States.
This work adds to the effort we are making to further narrow the first dispatch of professional volunteers from Latin America and the Caribbean that will travel to our projects in the U.S., and seek to improve the lives of more than 16 million American children that currently live in poverty (U.S. Census Bureau, 2012).
